GRADES K-2: ALPHABET YOGA:
Let’s move through the alphabet like giant giraffes and beautiful butterflies. After a reading of PERFECTLY IMPERFECT POSEY, we’ll create our own poses for every letter of the alphabet (supporting letter and letter sound recognition). Students are invited to move their bodies and exercise their brains to reinforce early reading skills through multiple modality learning.
GRADES K-2 / 3-5: WHAT TO DO WHEN LIFE FEELS WOBBLY?
Life doesn't always work out perfectly, so what can we do when our plans don't work out and we feel a bit wobbly? We'll explore growth mindset with humor and share relatable stories while practicing the mindful techniques and yoga poses in IMPERFECTLY PERFECT POSEY. Students are invited to create their own mindfulness techniques, positive affirmations, and yoga poses that can help them go from wobbly to perfectly imperfect.
GRADES K-2 / 3-5: IMPERFECTLY PERFECT POSEY'S POETRY
Posey loves figures of speech like alliteration, onomatopoeia, simile, metaphor, and hyperbole. We’ll read IMPERFECTLY PERFECT POSEY, pointing out figures of speech throughout the text then creating our own poems using alliteration, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, and more.
*For Grades K-2 We’ll focus primarily on alliteration and or onomatopoeia.
*For Grades 3-5 we can explore figures of speech in greater depth.
FROM POSSIBILITY TO PUBLISHED: The Process from Idea to Publication:
How do ideas become books anyway? I’ll walk students through my journey from my first stories, to becoming a published author and offer a sneak peek behind the scenes of how books are made, using IMPERFECTLY PERFECT POSEY as a guide. We’ll talk about how resilience, determination, and the ability to receive feedback are just as important as talent and skill when it comes to reaching goals. We’ll leave plenty of time for Q&A, so in preparation for this workshop, teachers can encourage students to think of or write down their questions.
FOR ADULTS:
THE 5 H's FORMULA: Determining Which Stories to Focus on, Query, & Submit
With the help of Lizzie's 5 H's Formula, students will learn to evaluate their manuscripts for craft strength and industry readiness and decide where to focus/what needs tweaking.
REQUEST, REVISION, RELEASE: The Making of Imperfectly Perfect Posey (+publishing tips)
Lizzie takes you behind the scenes of connecting with a publisher (with or without an agent), creating a book, marketing and promoting it, and sending it into the world with a bang. Watch the transformation of Kirkus-starred Imperfectly Perfect Posey from initial manuscript and artwork to finished book, while gaining insight into how to successfully bring a book into being.
